(This is the Bio of Sin City Cycles)
The plan was hatched to open Sin City Cycles in 1987 and was put into play shortly after. The name was derived from a 100 year old nursery rhyme. Lynn, Lynn, The City of Sin, You Never Come Out The Way You Went In. After talking to a friend who was willing to put up a few bucks for start up money, the plan went into play.
I had an office at 162 Franklin St. in Lynn for my carpet cleaning and spring water businesses. I put up sheets over the front windows to conceal what was going on inside. Mind you, at no time did I breathe a word of what was to come. I had already made contact with some after market parts dealers. We went down to Nemco and bought our first order cash. Bobby, one of the owners, was very helpful, a good man, and he put us on track.
Back to behind the sheets over the windows... I and a couple of friends stayed in there moving office equipment out and display cases in, hanging peg board, clothes racks, etc... We were in there for two days, all the while my friend Paul was painting up the sign to be hung out front. Two big pieces of 4' by 8' plywood with our logo on it. (Only later to have Harley Davidson contact us about the bar and shield, so we made a minor change in the design.)
We had all the permits ready and in the middle of the night we hung the sign. Sin City Cycles was born.
It was a small store filled to the brim. As all this was going on, we weren't done with surprises or ways to service our customers. We opened our repair shop a mile down the road behind the local bar, "Frank's", and put in three lifts -- two in-ground and one scissor lift. We had two mechanics on full time and, as time went on, a third, and then a runner and helper.
People loved the idea of having a real bike shop in town. Lynn had the most registered Harley Davidsons in the State. The store hit the ground running. We kept long hours at the store and the guys at the shop did all they could to get everyone's bikes ready for the weekends. That meant late nights and a few beers for them.
This story only starts here, it takes many twists and turns over the years. So, we will call this Part One.
Sin City Cycles Forever, Forever Sin City Cycles.
